And this is why we live here!
And this is why we live here!
As we all suffered through essentially 5 months of winter , heating bills that competed with mortgage payments, and we couldn’t walk outside without risking life and limb, it was easy to wonder, ”Why do I live here??!!.” June is when we don’t have to wonder, June is when we know! Days are clear in the seventies and nights, almost without exception, are cool-good sleepin’ weather. Humidity stays low until the lazy days of late July and it rains at reasonably convenient intervals. Every aspect of early summer here invites us to participate in the outdoors.
Strawberries are ready to pick at dozens of farms in the area as well as early crops of kale, chards, lettuce, beets, and arugula. The landscape is overwhelmingly green, whether trees, shrubs, grass or ferns-green. Our home landscapes have mostly recovered from winter’s beating and rebounded with new growth, rewarding us for the time and energy spent on them. Annual flowers are fattening up in their respective containers and perennial gardens are lush and colorful, actually longer than usual because of the late spring.
The beautiful weather demands we plant, walk, run, golf, whatever outside. Get out there and enjoy- in your yard (we of course would encourage your spiffing up the backyard!), at a local pick your own farm, at one of the gorgeous botanical gardens or venues in the area, or around a pond or lake for a quiet meditative walk. We aren’t dodging tornadoes, mudslides, drought, or scorching heat-and this is why we live here!
